What a bittersweet week. America has done the unthinkable, the world has lost another great artist in Leonard Cohen and one can only imagine what it feels like for our French and Austrian friends as far right leaders such as Le-Pen, rallied by victories abroad raise their voices to fever pitch.
But all is not lost. Angela Merkel's dignified response to Trump's ascendency underlined her commitment to progressive politics, whilst Caroline Lucas' round condemnation felt like a much needed rallying cry.
